By creating an organized to-do list, you can prioritize the things you need to do… to feel prepared on race day.

Saturday

The MercyOne 5-Mile Run & 1-Mile Walk start at 8:00 am followed by the MercyOne Children’s Hospital Kids Run at 9:30 am on Saturday, October 19. All races take place at Principal Park. 1 Line Drive. Des Moines, IA 50309.

Event App With IMT DMM LiveTracking your friends and family can follow your progress live during the race by simply searching for their race number/bib or name by clicking here. You can then choose to post live updates to your Facebook or Twitter account with their progress. You will then be asked to log into your social media account and authorize the app to allow it to post live updates on your timeline/feed. Social Sharing.

In the new app you can find all the information you like to know about the IMT DMM: course maps, updates via social media, LiveTracking and more. You don’t need to bring your phone, as the App uses the passing of the timing mats and calculates the average speed. IMT DMM LiveTracking is available for free download through the iTunes and Google play stores.

Weather Check Local 5 for up-to-the-minute updates, but expect a chill at the start line. Temps in the mid 40’s at the start and warming up into the upper 50’s as the race gets going is not uncommon. Layer up with some old clothes and shed them as you warm up after a few miles or as the day progresses. Volunteers from Iowa Homeless Youth Centers will pick up, wash, and distribute any clothing left along the course.

Parking Principal Park offers free onsite parking. Consider parking in either the main parking lot north of the stadium or across the street, to the west of the stadium in one of the available lots.

Gear Check The Lint Companies Gear Check is located inside the main entrance to Principal Park. Use the clear “see-through” plastic bag from packet pick-up. In the race packet there is a pre-printed adhesive label to write your race number/bib on. Affix it to your bag. Return with your race/bib number after the race to claim your belongings. A driver’s license or ID may be requested. All items are subject to search. Do not check any valuable items. The IMT Des Moines Marathon is not responsible for lost, stolen or unclaimed bags.

Line Up Enter the start line area outside Principal Park. Select your lineup point based on your predicted finish time. Do not be afraid to ask a member of the IMT Des Moines Marathon Race Committee or Ambassador program for assistance. The race is scored on ‘net’ time, which means your official time starts the moment you cross the start line mat and finishes the moment you cross the finish line. A general rule of thumb is runners towards the front and walkers towards the back.

Wear Your Bib Athletes without a visible race number/bib centered on the front of their shirts will be removed from the course for security and safety. Complete the medical information fields on the back of your bib prior to the race if they aren’t filled in already.

No Wheels Bicycles, inline skates, roller skates, scooters, wheeled vehicles (except registered push-rim athletes or wheelchairs) and animals of any kind are not allowed in the Mercy Live Up Loop races at this time. If you are seen in violation, you will be removed from the course. The race is offering a stroller division.

Strollers Welcome An adult may run or walk with a stroller. A special wave start is offered and will follow the start of the 5-Mile Run.

Kids Run Distances of 50 Meters to 1-Mile are offered for kindergarten through 8th grade aged children, along with additional activities thanks to Hy-Vee KidsFit. (weather permitting). The shorter distances will take place on the warning track inside Principal Park. The 1-Mile Run will start and finish in the parking lot and features a loop around the warning track inside Principal Park.

Time Limit The course is open for 90 minutes. This allows for just under a 20:00 minute per mile pace in the MercyOne 5-Mile Run. Athletes unable to maintain a 20:00 minute per mile pace will not be removed from the course, but are not guaranteed course protection.

Restrooms Principal Park offers restrooms located inside the main concourse. Restrooms indicated on the course map are public restroom facilities offered at Gray’s Lake Park.

Water Stations Water is offered for all athletes on race day. Water stations are stocked with water provided by Crystal Clear Bottled Water just after Mile 2 and Mile 4 on the course, and at the finish line at Principal Park.

Entertainment Live music for athletes of all ages is offered before, during and after the race.

Finish Line Congratulations! You made it. Do not stop at the finish line. Proceed through the finishing area and proceed to the post-race amenities inside the Principal Park concourse.

Food The IMT Des Moines Marathon prides itself on feeding athletes at the finish line. Post race food is intended for athletes who have competed on race day only. Highlights include Hiland Dairy Foods, G2G Protein Bars, and Hy-Vee.

Post-Race Treatment Begin your race recovery by visiting the sport massage therapists in the concourse after the race. This service is free to all athletes and brought to you by Personal Best Massage of Urbandale.

Sunday

The IMT Des Moines Marathon & Half Marathon and Bankers Trust Marathon Relay start at 8 am followed by the Principal 5K Road Race at 8:30 am on Sunday, October 20. Court Avenue District, 300 Court Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50309.

Take the Bus Avoid potential parking issues or traffic delays and take the bus. Ride DART race weekend and take an alternative to driving alone.

Ride a Bike Free. Secure. Bicycle Valet Parking. Provided by the Des Moines Bicycle Collective in the Terrus Real Estate parking ramp located at the northeast corner of 2nd Street and Court Avenue.

Parking Street parking is free where you can find it (watch for temporary “no parking” signs). City ramps, which offer public parking for a fee are located at 3rd/Court, 4th/Grand, 5th/George Watson Powell, 5th/Walnut, 5th/Locust, 7th/Locust and 8th/Mulberry.  Find parking. You can park at Principal Park, just south of Court Avenue at 1 Line Drive, for free.

Lockers & Showers The Wellmark YMCA at 500 Grand Avenue opens at 7:00 am on Saturday and  6:00 am on Sunday. Athletes have access to the main gym for stretching, lockers, and shower use. Bring a lock. The Wellmark YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Restrooms Located in a variety of locations around the start line area. A majority of the portable toilets are located on 4th Street, to north of Court Avenue.

Reunion Area Meet athletes or your spectators at this pre-defined location before or after the race. You’ll find it north of Court Avenue; on 4th Street, across from Java Joe’s in the Reunion Area parking lot.

Shake Out Due to street closures athletes should consider warming up along 3rd Street to the south of Court Avenue.

No Wheels Bicycles, inline skates, roller skates, baby joggers, strollers, scooters, wheeled vehicles (except registered push-rim athletes or wheelchairs) and animals of any kind are not allowed on the IMT Des Moines Marathon course. If you are seen in violation, you will be removed from the course.

Time Limit The finish line is open for 7 hours in all race divisions. This allows for a 16:00 minute per mile pace in the Marathon. Athletes unable to maintain a 16:00 minute per mile pace will not be removed from the course. However, it is very important that you understand that volunteer services may not still be in place. Mercy Medical Center first aid stations and sag wagons along with the Bike Iowa Bike Support team will remain on the course until every athlete crosses the finish line.

Restrooms Portable toilets are located approximately every other mile on the course through Mile 20 and then every mile there after. Restrooms indicated on the course map are public restroom facilities.

Water Stations Hydration is offered approximately every other mile on the course through Mile 20 and then every mile there after. Crystal Clear Bottled Water (in cups) and Gatorade Endurance is served in cups. Some of the hydration stations may stock additional items such as Kleenex, petroleum jelly, gummy bears, orange slices, etc.

Energy Gels GU Energy gels will be offered at approximately Mile 14, Mile 20 and Mile 23 on the Marathon course and at Mile 7 and Mile 10 on the Half Marathon course. Athletes that consume energy gels while running should not rely solely on the energy gels offered on the course. They are offered on a first come, first served basis. GU Energy gels are offered in the following flavors: Strawberry Banana, Vanilla Bean, Tri-Berry and Chocolate Outrage.

Fresh Fruit Hy-Vee fruit stands offer bananas and oranges along the course at the GU Energy gel station locations.

Entertainment The course is lined with incredibly talented musicians and performers to entertain athletes throughout the race. This year, more than twenty-five acts are scheduled to appear along the course and at the Truly Block Party on Court Avenue following the race.

First-Aid Stop at one of the MercyOne First Aid Stations along the course. If you are unable to make it to a First Aid Station stop at one of the hydration stations along the course. A MercyOne or Keck Parking Sag Wagon will transport you to the MercyOne First Aid Station at the finish line.

Finish Line Congratulations! Do not stop at the finish line. Proceed through the finishing area and proceed to the Truly Block Party. Join Us At The Finish Line!

Food The IMT Des Moines Marathon prides itself on feeding athletes at the finish line. Post race food is intended for athletes who have competed on race day only. Highlights include, Hiland Dairy Foods, Qdoba Mexican Eats, Kodiak Cakesk, Jethro’s BBQ and Fong’s Pizza. Don’t forget to stop by the Hy-Vee Athlete Village ‘grab and go’ as well.

Beverages Bigger and better than before! Sample Truly and SAMS ’76 at the Truly Block Party on Court Avenue following the race. Athlete and spectator sales are available.

Post-Race Treatment Des Moines University providers, including physical therapy, foot and ankle, and osteopathic manual medicine, will be available at the finish line to conduct screenings and offer care to help aid athletes’ recovery. Look for DMU at the Hy-Vee Athlete Village on 4th Street.

Post-Race Party Celebrate with family, friends and other athletes at the official post-race party at the Royal Mile on 4th Street featuring food and Truly & SAM ’76 specials.
