What race distances are offered in the Run Iowa Challenge?
Complete your marathon, half marathon, 5-Mile, or 5K training distance in a single continuous run/walk at your own pace.
Follow IMT Des Moines Marathon training plans for daily, weekly, and monthly mileage totals, including Jeff Galloway’s Run/Walk/Run method.
What do I receive for participating in the Run Iowa Challenge?

Do I have to run the IMT Des Moines Marathon race to participate in the Run Iowa Challenge?
How do I sign-up for the Run Iowa Challenge?
Are you already registered for the race? No problem.
Use your transaction ID from your race registration to set up your free Run Iowa Challenge member account through the Run Iowa Challenge registration page. Click here.
Are you not running the race? No problem. Sign-up for your Run Iowa Challenge member account and engage with others from wherever you are. Click here.
Is the sign-up for the Run Iowa Challenge still open?
You don’t have to be participating in the IMT Des Moines Marathon races to sign up for the Run Iowa Challenge. Click here.
Can I run or walk my workouts in installments or do I do it all at once?
However, if you break up a workout into two sessions, say running three miles in the morning and running another three miles in the evening, you may record six miles total for the day.
Using a tracking device such as Garmin or a similar device/app, track your workout and record the miles or hours:minutes once you complete it.
You may also find it helpful and are encouraged to take a screenshot or photo of your virtual event race results in your Run Iowa Challenge presented by Capital City Fruit monthly tracker for record-keeping purposes. However, it is not required, nor do you need to submit it.
Where can I run or walk my training miles?
You can participate in the Run Iowa Challenge presented by Capital City Fruit from wherever you are!
Start right outside your front door, in your favorite park, on your favorite training route. Or if you live in the Des Moines area on the course itself.
Treadmills are allowed.
Please follow the guidelines outlined by your local municipality regarding running outdoors to ensure you are keeping yourself and your community safe. Follow standard street lights and traffic regulations like any typical solo training run you do.
May I complete my workout on a treadmill?
Yes, you may complete any portion of your Run Iowa Challenge presented by Capital City Fruit workout on a treadmill.
How do I track my workout?
You will be on the honor system for completing your Run Iowa Challenge presented by Capital City Fruit workout miles or hours/minutes.
If you would like to track your distance and time, there are many apps you may download for free such as run coach, the Fitness Sports app featuring Strava, RunKeeper, Garmin, Fitbit, etc.
How do I submit/upload my monthly mileage?
Once you have completed your workout, record your miles or hours:minutes in your monthly tracker.
At the end of each month, please return to the Run Iowa Challenge registration page and click on the Submit Monthly Total tab next to the event category you are participating in to submit your total. Click here.
You will receive a confirmation message and will then be able to view your results on your private access page.
Are there awards in the Run Iowa Challenge?

The Run Iowa Challenge presented by Capital City Fruit does not offer prize money, overall awards, or age division awards.
When will I receive my Run Iowa Challenge rewards?
