Heat Advisory Conditions

Athletes of any type should always be extra cautious when exerting any type of physical activity during heat advisory warnings. Overall, your training will not suffer any set backs if you reduce mileage, or take a day or two from running due to extreme conditions. Here are a few important reminders to keep in mind during your training for any of the IMT Des Moines Marathon races.

Y Go The Distance is the official training program of the IMT Des Moines Marathon featruing the half marathon distance. Available to both YMCA members and non-members at participating branches in the Greater Des Moines area. Participating greater Des Moines YMCA branches offer their own run club, where members can focus on training for the half marathon with week-by-week training formats led by YMCA staff and volunteer mentor led group runs. Each branch group meets at the Wellmark YMCA on Saturday mornnings for half marathon long-run routes and support. Programs start in July. More info.

Capital Striders is the official run club of the IMT Des Moines Marathon with a mission to promote and encourage running through the education of the community on the benefits of physical fitness and amateur sport. With events throughout the year and weekly training opportunities for runners of all abilities, this is your run club. IMT DMM App is now available! Within the training features of the IMT DMM App you can follow a training plan or customize your own. Start your workout and record your duration, pace and distance, along with average speed and splits. Your goals and saved workouts are used to create an adaptive program that evolves with you, fitting your body and your schedule. Also, In the app you can find all the information you like to know about the race: course maps, updates via social media, LiveTracking and more.

Don’t forget to inform your supporters to download the app, so that they can track your progress live during the race, and even record personal cheer messages! With the IMT DMM App they can see in real-time where you are at on the course. The IMT DMM App uses the crossing of the timing mats to calculate your average speed and pace. Keeeping Pace Podcast Join us each month for Keeping Pace powered by the IMT Des Moines Marathon. Emery Songer and IMT Des Moines Marathon Race Director, Chris Burch, talk about ways to properly prepare for race day. Each month they are joined in the studio by special guests with the latest information on how to properly train for the race, segments highlighting charity partners and how you can run for a cause, as well as topical information from the event sponsors. Road Runners Club of America The IMT Des Moines Marathon and the Capital Striders are members of the Road Runners Club of America and serve as the RRCA State Championship in Iowa for the 5K, 10-Mile, Half Marathon and Marathon distance.
