Event Overview

Since its inception in 2001, the Des Moines Marathon (DMM) has been dedicated to its mission of promoting health and fitness in greater Des Moines, across Iowa and throughout the Midwest.   Also in furtherance of its mission, the DMM supports charitable organizations like the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Organization For Autism Research, American Cancer Society, Iowa Parkinson's Disease Association, Iowa Kidstrong, Restoration Ingersoll and the Ankeny Substance Abuse Project.  The DMM promotes a positive image of Des Moines as a great place to live and play.

The IMT Des Moines Marathon is an endurance race that is unique in scope and size to Iowa.  It is a highly visible family friendly event that attracts athletes and spectators not only locally, but from across the state of Iowa and beyond, including those who otherwise may not make a visit to Des Moines.  There are many additional activies that take place in conjunction with the DMM, such as the Sports & Fitness Expo, Speaker Series, Pasta Dinner and Awards Ceremony.

The DMM has gained a national reputation for being a well organized event.  Volunteers receive praise for their hospitable charm and welcoming attitudes towards event participants.  The Maraton is noted as a scenic course featuring quaint neighborhoods and lush city parks, while the Half Marathon is a flat, fast paced course.

The addition of the 5-Person Marathon Relay Challenge, 5K Road Race and Kids Run in 2006 have been well received by athletes.  These events give participants an opportunity to run or walk in afamily-friendly atmosphere and are intended for athletes of all skill levels and ages.

The IMT Des Moines Marathon is good for the local economy.  More than 6,300 athletes participated in the 2008 races with an additional 5,000 spectators taking part in the race experience over the course of the weekend.  72% of the athletes were from the state of Iowa, with 45 states and 3 different countries represented.  Further, these numbers don’t reflect the more than 1,200 volunteers who dedicate their time and efforts to organize and put on an event of this magnitude.

Exposure

Together, we can develop a customized plan that will detail how your company/organization will benefit as an event partner.  The Des Moines Marathon promotes you on both a local and national level depending on your market and target demographic.

The DMM offers exposure through website, social media, television, print and radio promotion, as well as in-store promotion and products or demos on display at the Sports & Fitness Expo.  Race weekend signage and broadcasts are also available, including advertisements on Mediacom, ABC5 and Capital 106.3.

Sponsorship of the Des Moines Marathon is an investment in our community.  Involvement in this event plays a significant role in drawing people to Des Moines. Your company/organization’s support ensures a family-friendly event that focuses on health and wellness in Des Moines will continue to be offered on an annual basis.

There are a variety of ways to join the DMM from becoming a title sponsor sponsor to hosting a water station and or donating in-kind items that are essential to the quality of the event.
