Team In Training - Iowa had a total of 28 athletes participate in the 2009 IMT Des Moines Marathon and they raised an incredible $50,718 to fund research, raise awareness of LLS and to make a difference in the lives of blood cancer patients and their families.

“I knew running a marathon would not be easy but with my sister and I training/running together and for a purpose I knew we could do it. Our late grandfather of eight long years died from Lymphoma so we buckled down and raised awareness and funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). We met good people – friends that we have today – as we trained each week. We learned a great deal on this journey and we are very thankful for the IMT Des Moines Marathon. Chris, his team, and all of the volunteers were so helpful along the way. Many cities don’t have the luxury of such an experience in their own backyard. We finished(!) our first marathon in Des Moines (2008) with the support and dedication of the Team n’ Training Coaches and LLS. WE DID IT!” - Gina David

Organization for Autism Researchrun for autism logo
The Organization for Autism Research (OAR) was created in December 2001–the product of the shared vision and unique life experiences of OAR’s seven founders. Led by these parents and grandparents of children and adults on the autism spectrum, OAR set out to use applied science to answer questions that parents, families, individuals with autism, teachers and caregivers confront daily. No other autism organization has this singular focus.

Usually I run for fitness, but when I put on the green Run For Autism shirt it is about so much more than that. I felt so proud when I ran past spectators and they yelled Go Autism! That gave me an extra boost of needed energy because I was running for not only my own child, but for the autism community. My son was able to watch me run and I know later on he will be proud that I ran for him." - 2008 IMT Des Moines Marathon Finisherautism society of iowa

A total of 5 athletes participated in the 2008 IMT Des Moines Marathon on behalf of RUN For Autism and raised a total of $970.
