Soles 4 Soulssoles 4 souls

Soles4Souls™, Inc. began as a small team effort to make a difference in people’s lives with the gift of shoes.  When Hurricane Katrina roared ashore the gulf coast of the United States in late August 2005, a group of caring individuals and motivated charities created a website called KatrinaShoes.org in order to collect footwear donations from companies and individuals.

The response to its call for action was overwhelming.  As the fledgling charity called upon other organizations to help distribute the amount of donated footwear that arrived, it discovered that the need for basic footwear was immense, even when natural disasters weren’t looming on the horizon.  KatrinaShoes.org reincorporated as Soles4Souls Inc., which has become an acclaimed international organization dedicated to providing free footwear to those in desperate need.

By partnering with caring individuals, companies and charities around the country, Soles4Souls has the ability to hold popular footwear drives to reach needy people in the United States and around the world.

Please consider bringing your gently worn training shoes and other shoes to the Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Sports & Fitness Expo and look for the Soles 4 Souls collection bins!

Altoona Kiwanis
It’s hard to imagine an unhappy playground…After all, that’s where children go to have the time of their lives. To laugh. Zip down the big slide. Scramble up the chain climbers. Whiz by on the merry-go-round.  Swing with little feet pointed to the sky, higher and higher than ever before.

But Acea Hackert isn’t having fun like the other kids…He was born with physical challenges that have left him unable to walk on his own.  His walker doesn’t go through wood chips or gravel … it just sinks like he’s in quicksand. He can’t climb aboard any of the equipment. There simply isn’t a playground built for him, not within 30 miles.  So he watches. And wishes he could play … just like the other kids. If you’re anything like me, a situation like this just rips at your heart. With your help, we can make a playground that works for everyone.

The Altoona Kiwanis have a dream … to build the very first accessible playground in eastern Polk County, at Clay Elementary School, for preschool children aged 2 to 6. In order to make this dream come true, they need to raise $150,000 …but they will fall short without generous contributions from the good businesses and individuals in our community -- like you. Won’t you help us? When you contribute to this project, you’re not just building a playground. You’re building a community.
