Train with the IMT Des Moines Marathon Running Club.  Sign Up Now!

The IMT Des Moines Marathon encourages you to consult a physician, physical therapist, and/or personal trainer if you are a beginning or intermediate runner/walker with aspirations of completing one of the IMT Des Moines Marathon races.  

If you are not finding what you are looking for to assist you in your personal training program for any of the IMT Des Moines Marathon races, please Contact Us and we'll work with you to develop a training program just for you.

The IMT Des Moines Marathon Running Club is designed for beginning to intermediate runners and walkers alike.  A training program can be a great introduction and starting guide for anyone with aspirations of completing a marathon or half marathon.  Knowing how to interpret and to apply a training program to our personal lives can be tricky and that is where the experts with the IMT Des Moines Marathon Running Club can help.

Don't let the word "running" scare you. The IMT Des Moines Marathon Running Club invites runners and joggers of all levels, as well as walkers, to join and participate in club events. Bring the family, well-behaved pets, and baby joggers out to club runs or events.

Training Clinic
The IMT Des Moines Marathon Running Club features spring and fall semester Training Clinics that offers topics designed to prepare you for race day.  Sessions include getting in the right pair of shoes and apparel to get started and how to personalize training programs to accommodate your lifestyle, proper nutrition and hydration, injury prevention, as well as what to expect on race day. 

Sessions each month encourage group interaction and question & answer.  It is a great opportunity for you to personalize your training program, ask questions about the Training Guide, and get the latest in information to prepare you for a successful race.  

Training Guide
The IMT Des Moines Marathon Running Club has created an official winter/spring and summer/fall Training Guide to assist you with your training in 2012.  You do not have to be training for a specific race or have an exact mileage in mind to train with the IMT Des Moines Marathon Running Club.  

IMT Des Moines Marathon Running Club Training Guides have been developed with input from race experts, which include Bart Yasso from Runner's World, the Road Runners Club of America, and the IMT Des Moines Marathon Race Committee. 

The Training Guides consist of an intermediate program and and advanced program.  A three month training guide has also been developed for beginning runners and walkers interested in completing the Principal Financial Group 5K Road Race. 

The intermediate Training Guide assumes a cumulative mileage base of 10 - 15 miles per week for the half marathon and 15 - 20 miles per week for the marathon.  Don't worry if you aren't there yet, the five month programs allow for plenty of time to get you in shape for race day.  And if you are running well past 20 miles a week, there is an advanced four month program for you to follow along with.

Weekly Long Runs
Saturday morning group long runs meet each week all the way up to race day.  If you are looking for support to get in those long miles or just want to meet other runners, this group is for you!  

Each week routes will be created that will follow the intermediate Training Guide suggested long run distances. Map support, along with water and Endurance Formula Gatorade along the route and at the finish will be offered each with.  Experts will be on hand to answer questions and check in with you to monitor how your training is progressing.

Shorter routes will also be offered each week for anyone who is not following a specific Training Guide or wishes to run a shorter route than the guide presents for the week. 

Group runs will leave from the IMT Des Moines Marathon office at 7 a.m. after a brief introduction and review of the route for the morning training.
