Timing

The IMT Des Moines Marathon races are electronically timed using the IPICO timing system.
(pronounced eye-pee-co) "Net/Sportag™" times will be recorded as the official course time.  The net time begins once the Sportag, attached to your shoe, crosses the start line and will record time until it passes over the finish line at Nollen Plaza. As a result, regardless of where you are lined up in the pack at the start of the race, your official time will not begin until you cross the start line.

The IPICO Sports data capture system is very simple.  The Sportag™ contains a microchip and two antenna loops, one to 'wake up' the tag and the other to send its signal.  When the tag comes into contact with the antenna mat, it wakes up and starts sending its unique signal again and again to the reader, which stores volumes of data to be managed and communicated.

Timing services are provided by The End Result Timing Company. the end result

The End Result press release announcing the IPICO timing system.

Timing mats will be placed at the start line, 10K, halfway, 20 mile and at the finish fine.

The IMT Des Moines Marathon is proud to be categorized as a premier Boston Marathon Qualifier and touts the fastest qualifying time of any Iowa marathon.
