Elite Athletes

Elite athletes who are interested in competing should contact the IMT Des Moines Marathon office to discuss appearance opportunities for the marathon and half marathon.

Compensated hotel room, travel accommodation, airport transportation and/or waived race entry are available for elite athletes who meet certain time standards and can commit to the race prior to August 15, 2008.

The IMT Des Moines Marathon does provide police escort for the lead runners in the marathon and half marathon.  Course marshals and members of the bike support team will also be at various points along the race to assist in keeping athletes on course.  Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the athlete to know the course of the race they are participating in.

Elite athletes with waived race entry are NOT permitted to utilize private pacers who have not registered for the race.  Any athlete on the course, who is being paced by another person on foot or on bicycle who is NOT registered, will result in disqualification.

Applicants are required to list both their personal record career and past twoyears running accomplishments, along with supporting documentation proving that they can qualify to run within the established IMT Des Moines Marathon elite time standards.

If an elite athlete can meet the elite athlete time standards established by the IMT Des Moines Marathon, that alone does not guarantee acceptance into the race.  An elite athlete is considered committed to the IMT Des Moines Marathon after they have submitted an Elite Athlete Application that has been approved by the Elite Athlete Committee.
