The Principal Financial Group 5K Road Race takes place at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 19 at Nollen Plaza. The Principal Financial Group 5K Road Race utilizes much of the same course as the IMT Des Moines Marathon and Half Marathon and Saturn 5-Person Marathon Relay Challenge.

You may Register for the Principal Financial Group 5K Road Race on Friday or Saturday at the Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Sports & Fitness Expo.
Please note that registration and/or athlete packet pick up is NOT offered on race day.

Packet Pick Up
Athlete packet pick up will take place at the Wellmark Blue Cross & Blue Shield Sports & Fitness Expo located at the Polk County Convention Complex. Your athlete packet includes your race number/bib, last minute race updates, sponsor product samples & information, souvenir guide and your IPICO timing device (Sportag™).
You are required to pick up your OWN athlete packet and verify your PERSONAL IPICO Sportag™. You will activate your Sportag™ with The End Result timing company in order to complete your registration for the IMT Des Moines Marathon.
Once registration is complete, you will be able to pick up your Principal Financial Group 5K Road Race race shirt and enjoy the family-friendly festivities at the Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Sports & Fitness Expo.

Parking
There are a variety of free parking options in downtown Des Moines over the course of race weekend. You do not have to put money in the parking meters on the streets after 6:00 p.m. on Friday or at any time on Saturday and Sunday.
We invite you to take advantage of free parking at many of the downtown parking ramps on Saturday and Sunday. City of Des Moines parking ramps are located at 4th Street/Grand Avenue, 5th Street/George Watson Powell Parkway, 5th Street/Locust Avenue and 7th Street/Locust Avenue. Please do not attempt to park in the 3rd Street/Court Avenue parking ramp on race morning.
You are also welcome to park in the Iowa Cubs parking lot at Principal Park. The parking lot is located at 2nd Avenue and Line Drive, one block south of Martin Luther King Drive and six blocks south of the tart/Finish Line at Nollen Plaza.
Please be respectful of No Parking signs in the downtown area, especially on race day. Chances are likely that the No Parking signs are posted on behalf of IMT Des Moines Marathon course and your vehicle will be towed by the City of Des Moines prior to the race.

Highlights
The Principal Financial Group 5K Road Race course is protected for all registered athletes. The City of Des Moines is paid to provide escort services for the first and last runner of each race and to monitor the progress of every athlete in between. The safety of each athlete on the course is a top priority to IMT Des Moines Marathon race officials.
The City of Des Moines Public Works and Police Department post No Parking signs and place barricades/traffic cones at key intersections along the course to ensure that you have the right of way on race day. Police officers and course marshals will be stationed at key areas to keep you on the course at all times.
Principal Financial Group 5K Road Race mile markers and race in progress signs will be posted along the course. Ultimately, it is your responsibility as a registered athlete to familiarize yourself with the course of any race you are participating in.
The IMT Des Moines Marathon will offer course presentations at the Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield Sports & Fitness Expo on Friday and Saturday. Visit the Mizuno Speaker Series page for times and details.
Awards
Principal Financial Group 5K Road Race age division awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each of the following age groups: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and over (older age group awards as applicable).
Age division awards will be presented at the Fitness Sports Awards Ceremony at Nollen Plaza. Age division awards should be claimed by age division winners if they are not present for the Awards Ceremony.
The Principal Financial Group 5K Road Race Awards Ceremony, emceed by Creigh Kelley, will begin at 9:45 a.m. at Nollen Plaza.
