The IMT Des Moines Marathon races are electronically timed using the IPICO timing system.
(pronounced eye-pee-co) "Net/Sportag™" times will be recorded as the official course time. The net time begins once the Sportag, attached to your shoe, crosses the start line and will record time until it passes over the finish line. As a result, regardless of where you are lined up in the pack at the start of the race, your official time will not begin untilyou cross the start line.
The IPICO Sports data capture system is very simple. The Sportag™ contains a microchip and two antenna loops, one to 'wake up' the tag and the other to send its signal. When the tag comes into contact with the antenna mat, it wakes up and starts sending its unique signal again and again to the reader, which stores volumes of data to be managed and communicated.
Timing services are provided by The End Result Timing Company.

All IMT Des Moines Marathon races use gun time for overall awards and chip time for age division awards.
Timing mats for the IMT Des Moines Marathon will be placed at the start line, 10K, 13.1, Mile 20, and at the finish fine.
Timing mats for the IMT Des Moines Half Marathon will be placed at the start line, 10K, and at the finish fine.
The IMT Des Moines Marathon and The End Result offer a variety of technological perks that help athletes, friends and family have a more enjoyable race experience. We would like to thank Mediacom Communications for making these race day enhancements available.
Searchable Online Race Results An online database of searchable results detailing chip time, gun time, splits, pace and placement is available. During the running of the IMT Des Moines Marathon you can follow the race online. A listing of the top five runners in each race is refreshed each time athletes cross a timing 'split' mat and race results are posted and updated in realtime once athletes begin crossing the finish line.
After the completion of the IMT Des Moines Marathon the race results page becomes a searchable database that gives you the opportunity search athlete race results and compare them to others based on first/last name and athlete race/bib number. Athletes can click on the printer icon to the left of their name to view their finisher certificate and save it to a computer where it can be printed and shared with others. Search Race Results Now!
Athlete Alerts Athletes and their friends and family members are able to sign up online to receive email or text message alerts showing their progress on the course in real time. This technology enables spectators to keep track of athletes on the course so that they can have a better idea when and where to be on the course to show their support, as well as receiving finish results in real time. Registration for athlete alerts is free.
QR Codes IMT Des Moines Marathon athletes with smartphones will be able to instantly get their results at the IMT Des Moines Marathon by simply scanning a quick-response (QR) code printed on their bib. A QR code is a two-dimensional barcode that can be scanned using an app on a smartphone. The code will then direct the user to the encoded information, which can be text, a phone number, a coupon, or in the case of the IMT Des Moines Marathon a URL featuring personal results.
Athletes will be directed to their personal results page when they scan the QR code on their bib. Athletes with smartphones will have the advantage of not having to wait in line at the Mediacom Finish Line Tent to get their final time and mile splits. Android, BlackBerry, iPhone devices require a QR code reader application to scan QR codes, and all have several QR code applications available for free in their application market.
Be sure to download an app on your smartphone before race weekend. Click these links for apps on Android, BlackBerry, and iPhone devices. If you need more information on how to download a QR code application visit the trouble shooting booth at the Scheels Sports & Fitness Expo. Athletes without smartphones can still get their final time and splits at the Mediacom Finish Line Results tent at Nollen Plaza, or have someone with a smartphone scan their bib for them to view their results.
